SpamLab Administrator
Job Description��

JOB PURPOSE

This position is for a database and systems administrator/developer to work as part of the McAfee Avert Labs SpamLab team. This team maintains and develops the backend systems that feed data to the Anti-Spam Researchers and generate automated anti-spam rules for the anti-spam engines. Applications are mostly written in perl, C++ and SQL.

This is a very reactive role, with tasks changing rapidly depending on the requirements of the customers of the SpamLab as new spam campaigns develop.

Development responsibilities:

•Work in cooperation with the team to maintain the SpamLab systems
•Work in cooperation with the SpamLab customers to develop the SpamLab systems
•Deliver software to an acceptable level of quality

Operational responsibilities:

•Pro-actively monitor SpamLab systems, report and address issues
•Respond to new customer requirements as appropriate
•Create and deploy new monitoring components
•Create, update and deploy new system components

Desired Profile ��

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential

•System Administration experience in a multi-platform Linux environment, specifically with RedHat and Debian.
•Strong scripting skills (bash, perl, awk etc)
•Very strong experience working with databases in an administration, design and optimisation role, using MySQL and ideally other databases too – PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server
•Thorough understanding of IP, SMTP, DNS, NFS
•Thorough understanding of MTAs, specifically Postfix
•Excellent written and verbal communications skills
•Willingness to perform out-of-hours system support if required

Desirable

•Some knowledge of Windows system administration
•Knowledge of SOAP Webservices
•Experience in interfacing to .Net Webservices from Perl
•Linux or Unix programming experience.
•Nagios and RRD development experience
•NetApp experience
