(KEAM Entrance Tests to begin on 18th April
The Kerala Engineering, Agriculture, Medical (KEAM) degree entrance examinations of 2011 will get under way at 297 centres, including two in Dubai, on 18th April, 2011.
The first examination will be Paper – I physics and chemistry for aspirants of the engineering courses, to be held between 10 a.m. and 12.30 p.m.
B.S. Mavoji, Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, said his office had received 1,26,409 valid applications.
While 1,09,984 candidates were scheduled to write the engineering entrance examination, 84,617 candidates had applied to write the medical entrance papers. As many as 68,192 candidates would take both tests.
For the first time since the inception of the entrance examination, the marks scored in the Plus Two examinations would be given equal weight as the marks scored in the entrance examinations for the preparation of the engineering rank list.
Also, for the first time, a statistical formula would be used to ‘normalize’ the scores of candidates in different examinations such as those conducted by the State boards, the Central Board of Secondary Education and the India School Certificate Examinations.
Essentially, the scores in other examinations would be statistically mapped to the scores of candidates in the Kerala higher secondary examinations.
Mr. Mavoji told that applications had come in from students who have written the Plus Two examinations conducted by 40 boards all over the country and abroad.
The State government had recently expanded the ‘normalization’ committee to get in touch with all these boards to get data relating to the Plus Two examinations of 2011.
The preparation of the rank list of the medical entrance examination would be a straightforward affair as it would be solely on the basis of the marks scored in the two papers.
If the Medical Council of India does introduce a nation – wide entrance examination for admission to the MBBS programme next year and make it applicable to all States and types of college, this would be the last medical entrance examination conducted by the Commissioner.
