Database Design and Administration focuses on developing and maintaining physical databases used by applications. The purpose of this role is to assure data availability, security and integrity through:
. Developing database specifications, which result in a database which, meets or exceeds performance requirements of the business.
. Designing, developing, and maintaining optimized databases.
. Review and Certification of PL/SQL Statements, Stored Procedures and Packages for to meet Performance Requirements of the Products and Project Requirements.
. Integrating third-party databases.
. Identifying and procuring database software tools that enable efficient database development and use.
. Designing, developing, and maintaining effective backup and recovery processes and procedures.
. Continuous monitoring of databases, tuning for performance and availability. Skills in configuration of tuning of Oracle Parameters like SGA, PGA, Buffers, PAE and AWE.
. Providing on-going consultation and documentation on the design, accessibility, and maintenance of database systems.
. Working experience on Oracle add-ons like
. Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC)
. Oracle Fail Safe (using Microsoft Cluster Services)
. Oracle Streams
. Oracle DataGuard
. Experience on Oracle Implementation on Sun Solaris UNIX / Windows Platform
Database Modeling
Translation of logical to physical modeling (shared between business requirements and database design and administration).
Database Design, Creation and Maintenance
On-going design and development (optimization, maintenance, data migration) throughout the IT-PRP process (e.g., security and standards enforcement).
Installation and Maintenance of Database Software/Tools
On-going identification, procurement, installation and maintenance of database documentation and tools.
Database Backup and Recovery
Assuring reliability and availability of databases through analysis of need, design, development and implementation of database backup and recovery procedures.
Database Performance Maintenance and Tuning
Identification of need for and performance of adjustments to the database to guarantee its performance meets or exceeds specifications.
Technical Communications and Consulting
Transfer of knowledge through publishing and other communication; participation in capacity and infrastructure planning and budgeting, release management, and architectural reviews; consultation and technical support.
